What We Fund

The Del Cotto Family Foundation awards grants to 501(c)(3) nonprofits that serve communities within the roughly 100 miles of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We look for organizations that are well established, mission-driven, and aligned with our areas of focus.

 

The Foundation will review both solicited and unsolicited grant proposals. The grant selection process will be conducted by the Directors of the Foundation who will identity potential grantees through research, recommendations, site visits, interviews and review of their formal applications to the Foundation. Each applicant must provide proof of 501(3) (C) tax-exempt status, a description of their charitable activities, explanation of the expected charitable outcomes, a proposed budget for grant funds, annual financial statements and any other relevant information requested by the Directors.

 

Grants are intended to support programs that align with the Foundation's mission and will be made to qualified donees whose activities support public 501 (c)(3) charitable, educational, religious, or scientific activities. The Foundation will identify and approve potential grantees through research, recommendations, on-site visits and a Foundation-prepared application submitted by the applicant. The applicant must provide a description of their charitable activities pertaining to the funds, proposed funds budget and other requested documents. Applications will be reviewed based on impact, feasibility and alignment with the Foundation's mission. If accepted, the applicant will receive a written agreement outlining grant terms and report reporting requirements as to the use of grant funds. Failure of the recipient to comply or its misuse of funds could result in the Foundation requesting additional documentation, withholding future payments or requiring repayment of misused funds. All records (applications, approval documents, written agreements and reports) will be maintained electronically by the Foundation in real-time on-site as updated. 

 

The Foundation does not directly operate its own programs. Instead, it accomplishes carries out its charitable purpose by supporting qualifying organizations through financial grants.

Basic Eligibility

To be considered for a grant, organizations should Be recognized as a 501(c)(3) public charity (Be a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status with the IRS) Be operating within the US Have been in operation for at least 3 years Demonstrate strong governance, financial transparency, and track record of impact.

 

The grant selection process will be conducted by the Directors of the Foundation who will identity potential grantees through research, recommendations, site visits, interviews and review of their formal applications to the Foundation. Each applicant must provide proof of 501(3) (C) tax-exempt status, a description of their charitable activities, explanation of the expected charitable outcomes, a proposed budget for grant funds, annual financial statements and any other relevant information requested by the Directors.

 

Grantees are required to submit a written report within 3 months of each time receiving funds. This report must describe how the grant funds were used and the measurable outcomes of the funded activities. The Foundation will continuously oversee the grantee to insure that the grantee's activities satisfy 501 (C) (3) organization requirements and take necessary action if the grantee's activities do not satisfy those criteria. Grants generally will range from $5,000 to $500,000 annually.

 

Areas that are NOT eligible:
  • Unsolicited grant proposals

  • Funding for research projects

  • Organizations with direct contact with a political or government group

  • Funding to specific religious denominations

The Foundation is a private foundation recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501 (C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation will be funded exclusively by the Armand L.Del Cotto Dynasty Trust, which will make periodic contributions to support its mission. The Foundation supports nonprofit 501 (C) (3) organizations that advance holistic healing, whole-person wellness, strengthen wellbeing, build resilience, and create meaningful outcomes for the communities they serve. the Foundation's primary activity is making grants to qualified  501 (C) (3) organizations engaged in charitable, educational, religious, or scientific activities. The Foundation does not conduct direct charitable programs but instead distributes funds to organizations that align with its mission, said determination to be made after a thorough review of the applicant by the Foundation's Board of Directors as hereinafter noted.
