OUR Core Values

Scriptural Authority

We value God’s Word. We strive to be a church that is firmly grounded on the authority, inspiration, inerrancy, and preservation of Scripture. We believe that the Word of God is the source of all truth and life.

Faithful Preaching

We value faithful preaching. We strive to be a church that consistently proclaims the truth and story of Scripture through faithful expository preaching. By digging into God’s Word, we find out who God is, who we are, and how we should live.

Evangelism

We value evangelism. The church is the primary means through which the good news of the gospel reaches the lost. We believe members of TFCC should seek to display God’s love through personal and corporate evangelism and through active engagement in the real and felt needs of the community of Twin Falls.

Bold Prayer

We value prayer. We strive to be a church that seeks the Lord in private and corporate prayer. We believe God delights to hear and answer the prayers of His saints. We are commanded to come humbly, boldly, and confidently before God’s throne with our praise, confession, thanksgiving, and requests.

Kingdom Advancement

We value missions. We strive to advance the Kingdom of God locally, regionally, domestically, and internationally. We believe the church is an outpost of the true King’s Kingdom and believe God’s global plan for advancing His Kingdom is through His Church. We are a local church that seeks to be a catalyst for planting, revitalizing, and replanting local churches by training, equipping, and sending God’s people to advance His Kingdom.

Gospel-Centered

We value the gospel. We strive to be a church that proclaims, protects, and lives out the gospel. It is in the good news of the gospel that all of humanity finds hope and salvation. In a world where people are searching for hope, we know the immoveable truth of the gospel is the only source of true hope, satisfaction, salvation, and life through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Intentional Discipleship

We value intentional discipleship. We strive to be a church that is following Jesus and calling others to follow Jesus through life-on-life discipleship that seeks to bear each other’s burdens and spur one another on in holiness, love, and good works. We believe a main function of the church is to train and equip believers to be faithful disciples who are making faithful disciples.

Passionate Worship

We value passionate worship. We strive to be a church that worships the Risen King in our daily routines, as well as in our weekly gatherings together around the preaching of the word, prayer, and singing. We believe passionate worship is a natural and reasonable response to the transforming power of the gospel.

Unity and Diversity

We value unity and diversity. We strive to be a diverse community of believers who have been redeemed out of sin, reconciled to God through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and united together as sinners saved by grace. We believe the mystery of the gospel beautifully displays the glory of God when the church strives for humble unity amidst the diversity God has created in each of us.

Gatherings

Our church gatherings are centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ and grounded in the unchanging truth of God’s Word. We believe the church is made up of people from every background and walk of life, brought together in Christ to be His dwelling place on earth. When you visit, come as you are—but expect to be encouraged, challenged, and strengthened in your love for God and for others through the clear teaching of Scripture.

At Gateway Baptist, we believe worship is more than just music—it’s the response of God’s people to His truth. We worship through singing gospel-rich hymns (both old and new), reading and hearing God’s Word, lifting our voices together in prayer, and encouraging one another in fellowship. We also joyfully observe the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, remembering and proclaiming the work of Christ. Every part of our service is meant to glorify God and build up His people.

Meet pastor jason smoker

Pastor Jason Smoker began serving at Gateway Baptist Church in early 2025, following more than two decades of ministry in the Denver metro area. Though he grew up in rural Northern Wisconsin, Jason and his wife Naomi spent nearly 23 years in Colorado, where they raised their daughter Danielle and served in several churches. Along the way, Jason also worked in the technology field and developed a deep love for both ministry and the outdoors.

Alaska has held a special place in Jason’s heart since spending a summer on the Kenai Peninsula in 1992. When the opportunity arose to serve in Ketchikan, he and Naomi sensed God’s clear leading and embraced the call to this unique island community. Now surrounded by the mountains, rainforests, and ocean of Southeast Alaska, Jason is excited to preach God’s Word, build gospel-centered relationships, and explore the less-traveled trails along the way.

His prayer is that Gateway Baptist will be a place where people come to know Christ, grow in grace, and experience the steady peace found only in God.

MIssion & beliefs

Independent & Mission-Minded

We are a Bible-believing church. We believe the Bible holds the answer to all of life’s problems—even the most pressing issues of our day. We live in uncertain times, in an ever-changing world. Yet God is still God, and He has not changed! Our desire and prayer is for people to come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and to grow in their walk with Him.

We Love Our Community

Our passion is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ—both here in Ketchikan and around the world—and to disciple believers in the Word of God. We believe the Bible is without error, fully authoritative, and powerfully relevant in today’s world. God’s Word provides everything we need to build strong families, a strong community, and a strong nation.

We Seek to Glorify God

The heart of Gateway Baptist Church is the faithful preaching and teaching of God’s eternal Word. In every worship service and Sunday School class, we teach timeless truths from Scripture and apply them to everyday life.

We also glorify God through heartfelt worship and music that lifts up the name of Christ. Our congregational singing gives everyone an opportunity to participate in worship and declare God’s worth.

We hold to traditional, biblical Baptist beliefs. In a world where families are breaking apart and culture keeps shifting, people need a steady anchor. We believe in timeless truth—preached with relevance, taught with compassion, and lived with conviction. At Gateway Baptist, we offer the peace and steadfast hope found only in Jesus.
